Primavera P6 XER files that do not contain additional data

Importing from XER files to Turbo-Chart is possible even if the XER files do not contain the Required additional data.

Primavera XER Schedule data needs to contain additional information for Turbo-Chart to present the data, specifically:

  • ShapeCode – a Text field that defines how tasks are displayed
  • Location data, that together with the dates position the tasks on the grid.

When  importing an XER file, a text field mapping for the ShapeCode must be selected, but you can select to import tasks with no value for that code as shown here, and revert back to <none> if desired:

After importing, this will create the task list that can be viewed from DATA>TASKS. This list can be filtered and manually populated with ShapeCodes + Location Start/End values (or Location codes also):

The Task list can also be copied to Excel by selecting the Top Left Cell, Clicking CTRL+C to copy to clipboard and pasting into Excel for further populating. The data can then be imported back into Turbo-Chart using the paste wizard (see below).

We actually do not recommend using XER files as the data within them is static and needs a new XER generated each time the schedule is updated. If the XER has been imported into P6, you can actually configure the activity view to show the required columns, then copy and paste directly from the P6. view into Turbo-Chart. The Paste Wizard allows mapping of the P6 columns to Turbo-Chart fields as shown in this video:
